On one of the first rainy days after the dry season, a female jaguar prowled along the margins of the Cuiabá River. Perched on a fallen tree trunk, she scanned the water for potential prey—primarily caimans. Jaguars in this region are masterful hunters, expertly navigating riverbanks and slipping in and out of the water as the terrain and vegetation demand. For a few moments, she lay down, resting and allowing her presence to fade from the memory of any wary prey nearby. When she rose to resume her hunt, she turned back and fixed us with an intense, raw gaze—a striking display of her confidence and untamed majesty.
