The Icelandic Highlands are home to some of the most breathtaking vistas in the world. Aldeyjrafoss is a true ambassador of the scenic beauty the Land of Vikings is blessed with. The previous day, there was not a single human outside. A hurricane-force blizzard swept through the entire country, depositing serious amounts of snow everywhere. The following dawn was a picture of calm. With the aid of a Super Jeep, I traversed off-road in this winter wonderland and arrived at the precipice of this majestic waterfall. The fresh coating of snow embellished the basalt columns and elevated the frosty cascade. The concentric rings dissipating into the glacial blue was testament to the dichotomy of Mother Nature’s artistry. She can be terrifying, but she is also beautiful.
